Results

The Abbott Design Team approved and adopted the prototype research and design altering the future state of the live product and related apps.

My role

Truly collaborative product designer working with design leads, 3 designers, product managers, and different cross-functional teams to improve user experience of mobile apps.

Product overview

NAVICA app supplements their COVID-19 home testing kits.

• NAVICA is designed to easily pair the customer with their BinaxNOW rapid, COVID-19, antigen home test results.

• The app works on iPhone and Android devices and allows people to store, access and display their test results.

Design process

The marketing team gave us a blank slate. The research framework I created kicked off the team’s design process.

This effort executed in 6-weeks including research and close collaboration with product designers and developers.

User research

My research-based picture of the users became the design team’s primary direction for improving the app.

I focused my efforts on clarifying who and how users would use and benefit from the app.

I began my research by analyzing user data requested from the marketing team. The data allowed me to categorize real-world users, secondary users, and their primary motivations.

Problem statement

The very first features users needed to set up were not clear and sometimes hidden.

How might we ensure that the very first features users need to set up are clear and easily accessible, avoiding any potential hiding or confusion?

Wireframing

Navigate, Add and Connect

The potential solution allowed users to navigate useful features, like adding family members and connecting users results with institutions requiring a test.

Result

Increase of over 80% in setup completion rates.

The result improved users understanding of the NAVICA app futures, and increased setup completion by more than 80%.
